Season 2021-2022

Under its new artistic direction, the Ballet Eddy Toussaint will present its first production in 2022 on the occasion of International Dance Day (April 29, 2022 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.) at the Maison des arts de Laval. The company will honor Mr. Toussaint's career by presenting the ballet Alexis le Trotteur.

The story is inspired by a popular Quebec tale about Alexis Lapointe, from Lac Saint-Jean, who really existed and was nicknamed Le Trotteur. Mr. Lapointe was known for his ability to run faster than a horse. However, although physically gifted, he is affected by psychological problems and really thinks he is a horse, whipping himself to boost his speed. His exploits and his way of life prevent him from experiencing love and friendship. The ballet begins with group folk dances and ends with a pas de deux, whereas traditionally, in ballet, the reverse is required. During this pas de deux, Alexis is freed from his illness by a woman. This ballet made Mr. Toussaint internationally renowned. Incidentally, he inspired the newspaper Le Devoir to qualify the Ballet Eddy Toussaint as a “worthy ambassador of Quebec”.
